Unresolved Childhood Trauma Can Lead To Chronic Illness And Disease

Studies have shown that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can lead to chronic illness and disease.

Here are some examples of ACEs;

  • Emotional neglect
  • War
  • Serious Accidents
  • Disasters
  • Physical and sexual abuse.
  • Alcohol abuse or mental illness in the house
  • Parental absence due to incarceration or divorce
  • Death of a parent
  • Bullying
  • Extreme Poverty

The theory is that extreme emotional trauma is an impetus for a number of physical changes within the body that can lead to chronic illness and disease.

Below are some examples of chronic illness and disease linked to ACEs;

  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Lung Disease
  • Auto-Immune Disease
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraines
  • Depression
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia

In 1998, a Kaiser study examined, “The number of categories of adverse childhood exposures showed a graded relationship to the presence of adult diseases including ischemic heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, skeletal fractures, and liver disease.”

A study published in Nature details, “Childhood adversity may potentially have detrimental effects on long-term health… The cumulative burden of adverse experiences has been shown to cause negative effects on physiological, cognitive, behavioral, and psychological functions.” In addition, “An increasing number of ACEs has also been found to be related to autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, frequent headaches, primary insomnia, and several metabolic risk biomarkers (obesity, high blood pressure, high total cholesterol, low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high glycated hemoglobin).”

Studies Have Shown That Hypnotherapy Is Effective At Alleviating Symptoms of Trauma-

  • According to a 2013 meta analysis for the efficacy of hypnotherapy on PTSD, they found that hypnosis had both short and long term success in alleviating PTSD symptoms.
  • A Study published in 2019 revealed that women who experienced PTSD from sexual abuse reported decreased symptoms after receiving hypnotherapy.
  • A 2001 report described the successful treatment of a British war veteran who had experienced severe PTSD symptoms for over 40 years. After receiving hypnotherapy treatment, the man was reported to be almost symptom-free and was able to begin normal relational contact with family and friends.

How Does Hypnotherapy Help?

Studies have shown that Hypnotherapy can help by regressing a person to positive resources to look at the trauma from a different perspective. Then the trauma is reframed and the emotional charge is released.

According to a study published in 1990, “Hypnosis provides controlled access to memories that may otherwise be kept out of consciousness. New uses of hypnosis in the psychotherapy of PTSD victims involve coupling access to the dissociated traumatic memories with positive restructuring of those memories. Hypnosis can be used to help patients face and bear a traumatic experience by embedding it in a new context, acknowledging helplessness during the event, and yet linking that experience with remoralizing memories such as efforts at self-protection, shared affection with friends who were killed, or the ability to control the environment at other times. In this way, hypnosis can be used to provide controlled access to memories that are then placed into a broader perspective.”

Toxic childhood trauma creates negative trapped emotions that studies have shown wreak havoc in your body leading to chronic illness and disease. Resolution of trauma coupled with forgiveness helps you break free of the perpetrators, so the past can’t hurt you anymore. It is the final component to trauma recovery. The forgiveness is not meant to benefit the person you are forgiving. You are releasing out of date emotions to clear up space for the wonderful life that you deserve.

Forgiveness helps YOU become more powerful.
